What is there to do at Glasgow Doors Open Day Festival?

Doors Open Day Festival is an annual event held all over Scotland, including Glasgow. During the festival, numerous buildings that are closed to the public open their doors to visitors. The festival aims to promote civic pride and interest in the built environment by allowing people to explore and understand the city’s architecture and history.

Exploring Historic Buildings

During the festival, visitors have the opportunity to explore a wide variety of historic buildings, including museums, libraries, churches, and even private homes. Many of these buildings have significant architectural or historical value and are not typically open to the public.

The Programme

The Glasgow Doors Open Days Festival offers a fantastic opportunity to explore over 80 buildings for free. Some notable sites included in the program are the distinguished Glasgow City Chambers, the Sharmanka Kinetic Theatre with its fascinating gallery and rich history, and the newly renovated church at Adelaide Place Venues in the city centre.

Guided Tours

Guided tours are available in many of the buildings, offering visitors with fascinating insights into the history and significance of the sites they are visiting. A knowledgeable guide will lead you through the various areas, providing context and background information about the architecture and the stories behind the buildings.

Architectural Workshops and Seminars

The Advanced Research Centre at the University of Glasgow is the hub of the festival. Here you can participate in workshops and seminars led by experts in the field. Sessions will cover topics such as preservation, design, and the future of Glasgow’s architectural landscape.

Family-Friendly Activities
