Kirkintilloch Canal Festival

Kirkintilloch Canal Festival

Today marks the beginning of the fantastic week long Kirkintilloch Canal Festival and we here at Red Deer Village Holiday Park are extremely excited to see what’s in store.

Getting to the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival

Whether you’re travelling by car or public transport from Red Deer Village Holiday Park, Kirkintilloch Canal Festival is straightforward and easy to get to.

If you’re travelling by car, there are a couple of alternative routes available to take. The quickest route (by a matter of minutes) involves driving along the A806 to Donaldson Street. However, the other route involves driving along the B757 to Marina Way.

If you’re planning to travel using public transport, the bus offers the most efficient route. To get to the bus make your way into Glasgow City Centre, head to the Central College of Commerce on Cathedral Street (7 minute walk from Queen Street station) and hop on the X85. Then the bus takes around 20 minutes and you should arrive after 12 stops at Donaldson Place. And from there it’s a simple 6 minute walk to the festival.

Story Week

The Kirkintilloch Festival’s Story Week runs from Monday to Friday, offering lots of insightful and enjoyable events.

Some of our highlights for the week ahead include Bubbles and Breakfast on Wednesday the 16th from 11am – 1pm. Plus Tea Dance with MG Dance Clubs on Wednesday the 16th from 7pm – 9pm and Adult Ceramics Drop In Session on Friday the 18th at 2pm. Alternatively, if gentle boat rides are more up your street, there are daily boat trips leaving from Kirkintilloch Marina at various times from Monday to Friday.

Events and boat trips can be booked in advance online. We strongly recommend checking before turning up as some events must be pre-booked. Find out more here!

Get Active Saturday

The festival’s Saturday event offers everything from a bubbleologist to a zoo lab. And we’re predicting it’ll be bursting with excitement and fun for all of the family!

Some of the events we’d recommend attending throughout the day include the Rollerbeats roller disco, Jump and Jive, Punch and Judy Puppet Show. And there’ll be delicious food at the Great Marina Food Court. For music enthusiasts, be sure to keep an eye out for live performances from artists such as Emma and the Ragmen, Big City and Shardlake. To finish the evening off there’s a spectacular firework display at the Marina that’s definitely not to be missed!
