Kirkintilloch Canal Festival 2019

Kirkintilloch Canal Festival 2019

The annual Kirkintilloch Canal Festival will run from 26 August to 1 September 2019. Canal Festival Week is a loaded schedule of activities and attractions for all the family to enjoy. Plus, the week draws to a close with an action-packed weekend that includes a fireworks show and evening concert. Kirkintilloch is only 5 miles (13 minutes to drive) from Red Deer Village Holiday Park. That makes us ideally located to enjoy the festivities if you’re looking for an evening stopover! So check out what’s available below!

Monday to Friday

Throughout the week, boat trips will be setting sail from Southbank Marina, Kirkintilloch to Bishopbriggs. Bookings must be made prior to arrival via the Kirkintilloch Canal Festival website or at the Kirkintilloch Community Hub.  Alternatively, there will be land activities which include learning about the environment, storytelling, trying out ceramics and history tours. Or, for something more refined, there will be whisky tasting trips, Bubbles and Breakfast and Fish Teas – all whilst you cruise leisurely along the Forth & Clyde Canal.

Get Active Saturday

With the arrival of the weekend comes even more exciting events. Clanadonia, a tribal tartan drums and pipes band, will be making their debut at the 2019 Kirkintilloch Canal Festival. Discover a range of cultures as the Dojo Drummers take on a choreographed routine of Taiko drumming, the Stepps Songsters dip into Japanese song and Kirkintilloch players perform “Music From the Movies”. Additionally, there’s the Kirkintilloch Gin & Whisky Festival, returning after its initial festival in 2018. There will also be a wrecking ball, archery, canoeing, pillow bash, nerf adventure, fun fair and carousel, puppet making, climbing wall and roller skating available on both Saturday and Sunday. So what more could you need? A fireworks display of course! The Saturday evening concert, Wireless, starts at 7pm and fireworks kick off at 9:30pm.

Gala Sunday

A renowned puppet show from the traditional Punch and Judy kicks off Sunday, suitable for all ages. Plus, a classic car showcase features, where visitors can chat to car owners about cars on display. Additionally, you can take part in a silent disco, model planes, face painting, teddy parachuting, Water Rollerz on the Southbank Marinara and open canoeing. Not to mention the Kennedy Cupcakes will be performing several dance routines and Gala – 1950s style will be performing and offering you the chance to join in.
