Mountain Biking Near Glasgow
After the success of the UCI Cycling World Championships in Glasgow this summer, many may feel inspired to take up the sport of the bike. It’s an excellent way to get fit, and to get out in nature for some fresh air. There are many good mountain biking spots near Red Deer Village Holiday Park, Glasgow. This makes the Scottish campsite an excellent base for a day out exploring.
Based on the outskirts of Glasgow, largest city in Scotland, you can even take your bikes on the local train into the city, and cycle round once you’re there. But if you’re looking for something a bit more adventurous, we have a list of mountain biking spots within driving distance below.
Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park Mountain Biking
There are many mountains in the Loch Lomond & Trossachs National Park that make for a great cycling route. Main paths can get very busy, so cycling with the sunset or sunrise may help avoid busy periods of other cyclists or walkers. Always prepare for rides accordingly. Being out on hills in the wilderness can be challenging if there is a sudden change of weather.

Glasgow Cycling & Mountain Biking
The Commonwealth Games in 2014 and the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 have seen some great benefits for the cycling scene in Glasgow. In recent years we have welcomed the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome and Glasgow BMX Centre. There’s also Kelvingrove Park Skatepark, trails in Pollock Park, trails and pump tracks at Cuningar Loop and a mountain biking trails at Cathkin Braes.
Balquhidder
Slightly further afield, but still within driving distance, are the natural trails of Balquhidder. Designed by the Balquhidder Trail Crew, there are 5 natural singletrack trails, 2 large hills with 16-20k of mountain bike riding (which can be reduced or extended depending on how you feel), and a 1.7k XC loop with single track and B road.
Aberfoyle Forest Trails
Aberfoyle has 200km of gravel forest roads and trails within a 12km radius. There are several loops for all fitness and cyclist levels heading out from the town. Although development continues, Aberfoyle also showcases a small bike park and several enduro trails, if gravel riding isn’t quite for you.
