Glasgow in Scotland is due to host one of the biggest cycling events in the world. 13 UCI World Championships take place over the course of 11 days: 3-13 August 2023. The world’s most elite cyclists will be taking part, with over 120 countries participating. The events include BMX (Racing, Freestyle Park and Flatland), Gran Fondo, Indoor, Mountain Bike (Downhill, Cross Country and Marathon), Para-cycling (Road and Track), Road, Track and Trials. Scotland’s own Sir Chris Hoy has been named as the official ambassador of the championships!

The UCI (Union Cyclist Internationale) is the world governing body of cycling, recognised by the International Olympic Committee. They have held many events since their founding in 1900, but the UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 will be a first. The event is to be repeated every 4 years going forward, in the year before the Summer Olympic Games.

Locations

Most of the events are due to take place in Glasgow. These are in areas such as Kelvingrove Park, Glasgow BMX Centre, Emirates Arena and the the Sir Chris Hoy Velodrome. However, some of the road and cross country events how take place further afield, such as Glentress Forest in the Scottish Borders, Nevis Range Mountain Resort in Fort William or a road racing starting in Edinburg and finishing in Glasgow’s George Square.

Power of the Bike

The UCI Cycling World Championships 2023 have an aim to inspire individuals and local communities to ride bikes. By encouraging active transport and showing the importance of cycling, the event would like to achieve world-changing goals, such as improved air quality, less congestion and more kids cycling to schools or adults cycling to work. Red Deer Village Holiday Park already offer a discount to active travellers, who can show that they cycled to the park to conserve energy. So we fully endorse the programme!
